La palabra socarrat significa quemado y hace referencia a un tipo de losa cerámica antigua con una sola cocción, mientras que otros tipos de cerámica necesitan dos cocciones, es decir, una primera cocción para el soporte, que usualmente es barro, y una segunda para el esmalte que decorará la superficie de la pieza cerámica dando el acabado final.
The Ceramo is one of the most charismatic buildings in the city of Valencia. Its neo-Mudejar style with over 150 years of history is still a place of imagination. Just passing by its exotic doorway brings back the mystery of the secrets that that the ancient ceramic artisans kept inside. Although seemingly impossible, the ancient building transmits great energy which perhaps comes from the heat of its old kilns.

The fallas of Valencia, as we know them today, is a prolonged fiesta in which the whole city participates 24 hours a day. The effigies (monuments) are put up in every street, cutting the traffic and transforming the urban landscape into a cacophony of noise, colour music and atmosphere.
